Benjamin Franklin
Today was a relatively cool day. Although
lively and enlightening, the weather has been cruel to us during our meetings. I am still
a bit troubled by the fact that I am well over the years of the fathers' of my peers.
During the past four months I have attend
every meeting the convention. They require all to be there for five hours a day. Many have
told me often that I look as i am in better health than before. I think they everyone
fears my collapsing during a meeting and at time my sense of rationality due my old age.
These four months have been those of great
progress. Successfully, I have opposed absolute executive veto, approved impeachment of
officers, opposed federal property qualifications and urged there to be a more liberal
naturalization law. However, it has been more difficult to voice my opinions on the
Senate's part concerning money bills, and the President's right to only one term in
office.
The heat has really come to bother my feet.
My blood-circulation has forced me to ask the help of dear James Wilson. The poor lad
stood in front of the delegates a good while today, reading my speech on my behalf. I
could see that the weather was not being kind to him either. Towards the end of the speech
his entire head was soaked with perspiration. I guess it was well worth the while -- he
was given a standing ovation. i think that he really has a talent for giving personality
to my speeches.
